Cheeseheads Going Wireless
Posted Jan 22nd 2006 7:35AM by Michael Sciannamea
Cities all across the state of Wisconsin are increasingly ramping up wireless network access. Milwaukee and
Madison are now in the throes of developing citywide networks, and now Green Bay is seeking to join the party.
As of now, most of the WiFi access in and around the area is limited to the standard coffee shops and other
establishments, but the state is seeing more agreements between cities that will allow users to log on from either
their own home area or someplace nearby, all for one fee.
It kind of warms the heart when the Cheeseheads are now joining the wireless revolution, doesn't
it?

1. How that strikes to home.
Being from Minnesota, and having to suffer from endless taunts of how they won 3 superbowls and we won none. All this of course from someone wearing cheese on their head somehow lessened the pain.
Today another big deal was made, San Francisco, a city that would love to think it is a part of the EU, signed an agreement with Google and Earthlink for a city-wide wifi.
However! The words too little, too late do come to mind. We're praising small advancements like this! Visit Japan or Korea as I have. As a tech expert one has no choice but to hide our heads in shame.
These kind of agreements between corporations and cities were made many years ago in those countries, followed by a society that quickly embraced the change.
