Interesting story from InformationWeek on how a company in midtown Manhanttan dealt with the loss of their Internet connection by turning to a "pre-WiMax" setup. They have a 3-Mbps service transmitted from a base station on top of the Empire State Building to their through their Park Avenue office windows. As the story goes, it's not really WiMax, but pretty close enough. With the certification of equipment by the WiMax Forum expected by the end of the year, it won't be long before we see the "pre" removed from WiMax.
