Blogger Edward Vielmetti has sent along details on a bill (HB5327) being considered in the Michigan state legislature that would impose delays of up to two years before a local government can begin a municipal wireless project. In effect, the locals must allow two private providers the opportunity to take up to one year each to provide service before the local government can begin. If one of the providers is serving one person, the local goverment is blocked from providing service. Vielmetti, as well as I and I'm quite sure many others, believes that the big telecoms are jamming this bill down the legislature's throat. Hopefully the state lawmakers will see through this proposal and vote it down.
(Thanks Ed!)
