The city of Grand Rapids, Michigan will be the site of an intense eight-week battle between vendors as to who will win the right to build a citywide wireless network spanning all 45 square miles of the city. There's only one rule: vendors will be asked to set up their network in an assigned territory and leave them open for anyone to use for eight weeks. The test begins on May 6.
This niche blog has now been merged into the The Wireless Report (www.thewirelessreport.com), which covers all things wireless.

1. Hi, This article needs to be updated, because the city of Grand Rapids had so many Wi-Fi providers wanting to be a part of the eight-week test, they moved the first round of test hotspots to launch June 1.
The GRPress has an updated article relating this info. later in April. Sorry, can't recall the date. The Press also showed where those four or five test sites will be. Then a second round of umbrellas is due to launch the beginning of July.
Good luck,
nelanj
