WiMax Networks Growing in Europe

France, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and now Spain are the latest countries to deploy WiMax technology. Spanish wireless operator Iberbanda SA has begun installing WiMax systems supplied by Israeli manufacturer Alvarion Ltd. in small and medium-size enterprises and residential customers in Andalusia, Spain's second largest and most highly populated region, and Catalonia. According to Alvarion, customer premises equipment currently cost around $200 a unit, but the price should drop below $50 when new chips from Intel become available.
