As many of you know, I co-founded and run the Southern
California Wireless Users Group along with Frank Keeney. We have been running these meetings since 2002. This month
marks our Two-Year Anniversary!
Our meetings are held every fourth Thursday of the month and tonight's the night!
After introductions, current events, and some Q&A, this meeting will bring Linksys into the fray. Linksys will give a presention showcasing their new equipment. See and hear about some of the unique products offered by this company based in Southern California. Some of their multimedia devices etc. are making news. Plus see and hear general information about the future of Linksys, standards and security. And you will probably see some insight into the Linksys perception of the Cisco acquisition.
The meeting begins at 7:00 PM Pacific, 10:00 PM Eastern.
If you can't come in person to the Pasadena, California location. Watch it Live over the Internet in streaming video via http://www.socalwug.org. If you missed it, the video will be archived forever on the SOCALWUG site next week.

Re-visit in virtual-time…
Last month a rep from Cisco Systems gave a presentation on the business product line (and wireless in general.) The acquisition of Linksys by Cisco was also covered. Including how tech will be shared across product lines. But both brands will stay in their general market. That is, Linksys will still be sold in retail stores, but may support high-end Cisco security and other biz tech. And Cisco will adopt some of the user-interface niceties common in Linksys products but sorely lacking in Cisco gear. Watch the video for the April meeting.
Over the past 2 years, meetings have covered topics such as wardriving, security, antenna construction, spectrum analysis, wifi kiosks, coffee house hotspots, fixed wireless internet, mobile wireless, radio frequency identification (RFID), ultra wideband (UWB), GPS and GPS jamming, community wireless, and a myriad of company products. If it's wireless, we've discussed it!

1. Wow! Incredible turnout and some great new products from Linksys! Technology and direction from Cisco is really making Linksys into a strong tech company. You can clearly see the influence when looking at the forthcoming products. Check out these products announced for the first time tonight (scoop alert) - many will be out next month!:
A new WPA/Radius security subscription service called Linksys Wireless Guard,
A wireless G firmware upgrade that turns your WLAN into a Boingo hotspot,
A new repeater called Wireless Range Expander,
The Wireless Media Adapter G will add Video support,
A new wireless switch with support for up to 69 VLANs,
And a non-wireless USB to Ethernet adapter to make USB hard disks into network attached storage (NAS) for about $100.
A lot to digest!
